Clairaut's Theorem

Last updated Jan 19, 2022 Edit Source

When calculating the second derivative of a function $f(x,y)$, $f_xy = f_yx$. i.e. The order of derivation doesn’t matter. This can also be represented as:

$$ \frac{\partial^2f}{\partial x \partial y} = \frac{\partial^2f}{\partial y \partial x} $$
